Class Attendance
Well, we are off and running. STAR is underway, and with it comes the most innovative approach to Continuing Education and Skill Upgrades District Council 16 has ever undertaken. Attendance has been slow at the outset like any new program, but there is one particular issue which needs to be addressed.
When you go online and schedule yourself for a class or classes, you are making a commitment to the program. STAR will reserve the facility, assign and pay an Instructor to be there, and purchase all necessary materials to provide the instruction to you. YOU, in turn, promise to attend the class.
Now we understand that real life can change. If you contact our offices prior to the class date, we will remove you from the roster. However, if you sign-up for a class and then just don’t show up on the day you selected, you are classified as a “No-Show” and you will be penalized. That penalty is as follows:
All no-shows will have those class hours marked against them, so that they must make those hours up before they begin to accrue qualifying class hours.
In other words, they are in a minus situation. If they fail to show for an 8-hour class, they must complete an 8-hour class just to reach ZERO-hours. They then must still complete the necessary 16-hours of instruction, including Survival of the Fittest class, to qualify for the awards portion of STARs.
This is not a negotiable item. If you are unable to attend, pick up the phone and call 510-782-STAR (7827). If you do not call, and fail to show-up, you will be penalized. While I will entertain WRITTEN requests for consideration, if you cannot produce receipts or records of an accident or breakdown, written medical explanation of death or serious illness, I will not change the decision.
